Vin Diesel Really Wants To Be In A Musical
Actor Vin Diesel has revealed that he is “dying” to appear in a musical someday, and that it almost happened with Hollywood titan Steven Spielberg.
Appear on The Kelly Clarkson Show to promote F9, Diesel was asked directly if he’d like to make a Fast & Furious musical. He didn’t answer that, but he said that overall he’s interested in being in a musical one day when the time is right.
“I’m dying to do a musical, yes. I’ve been dying to do a musical my whole life. I was this close to doing Guys and Dolls with Steven Spielberg, but [I am] dying to do a musical,” he said.
We heard about the Guys & Dolls remake back in 2019, but it has yet to materialize. Spielberg is directing a new version of another classic musical, West Side Story, which premieres in December, though Diesel is not in the cast. Diesel didn’t share any information on the Guys and Dolls remake, so there is no word on why it didn’t come together.
Spielberg and Diesel have worked together before, as Diesel appeared in Spielberg’s acclaimed 1998 WWII movie Saving Private Ryan.
Diesel said he would have wanted to play Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls, a part that Frank Sinatra famously played in the 1955 film adaptation of the stage play.
“Well, for the longest time I thought the Nathan Detroit role in Guys and Dolls would be a very interesting one to revamp, the character that Frank Sinatra played. My grandmother loved musicals,” Diesel said.
